2010 PMEA All State Conference and Festival Congratulations to Laura Lynn Crytzer, Sarah Bishop, and Patrick Fitz for the wonderful performances each of them turned in at the 2010 PMEA All State Conference and Festival this past weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. Patrick was a part of the All State Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a select 24 voice jazz group selected by taped audition. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble performed a concert on Friday evening, April 23, 2010 with the All State Jazz Band. A capacity audience of nearly 2,000 teachers, parents, and student musicians were in the audience and they were treated to a very well prepared and performed concert from both groups. Patrick even had a scat solo in one of the songs. Great job, Pat. Sarah and Laura were both part of the All State Chorus under the direction of Mr. Frank Bianchi a member of the faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin Wallace College. The concert concluded the weekend's activities. Congratulations to both Laura and Sarah for having scored high enough in their placement auditions to be designated as First Chair in their respective sections (Sarah - Alto I, Laura Lynn - Alto II). Both Laura Lynn and Sarah performed as part of a double Octet in Regina Coeli by Mozart. Other Butler students representing the school district at the festival were: All State Chorus - Logan Olczewski, Ashley Aul, Gretchen Geibel, Laurel Wain, Samantha Farabee, and B. J. Hyatt. All State Orchestra - Brad Bailey Congratulations to all of these students for their selection to the All State Ensembles. Finally, congratulations to Laura Lynn Crytzer who received the 2010 Irene R. Christman Memorial Scholarship. She was presented the award prior to the All State Chorus concert by Mr. Francis Nesta, President of PMEA. This award is given annually to a Pennsylvania high school student who participates in the PMEA Festivals, has been accepted to a college or university with the intent to prepare for a career in music education, and meets other music and academic criteria as established by the PMEA Executive Officers.
